In our marriages and our families…..are we being the right type of rock?
Are we the rock that our wives and children can stand on?
Or are we the rock that is stuck in their shoe that is causing them discomfort?
It’s a question that I found myself considering over the weekend. Of course….I would like to be a rock for my wife and family. Steady. Stable. And yet….I know that I will more than likely be that pebble that simply causes irritation at times. I know that I am not perfect. I know that I will fall down, but how do I become the firmest foundation that I can be? Simply put….I must allow God to be my rock. I must build my life, my marriage and my family on His firm foundation.
“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” – Matthew 7:24-27
