Self-serving Encouragement

Parenting is a challenge. Parenting teenagers is more challenging. Parenting in a blended family is even more challenging.

Lately…it feels like all I am doing is arguing with the kids about any one of a hundred things. It has contributed to a negative feeling in the house.

Encourage one another daily – Hebrews 3:13

It got me thinking…..am I speaking to their potential more than I am speaking to their faults? I’d say that I am not.

That’s not saying that we don’t have to address issues that are occurring. After all….a lack of rules and consequences does not produce quality adults. I think that reinforcing the positives creates better long-term results. I’d be willing to bet that when I speak to their potential that I’ll see better results and fewer arguments. Hect…it will probably change my perspective too.
