It was 1986. I was working on completing my lifeguard training. My final task – go down in 6ft of water, bring up a 30lb rock and lift it onto the dock. I was struggling. Mark Handren was standing on the dock. I couldn’t do it. I was exhausted from multiple attempts. I said, “I can’t do it.” Mark returned, “Can’t is not a word, it is an excuse.” Eventually…that rock was on the dock.
Why is it so easy to say, “I can’t be a good spouse?” Why is it so easy to say, “I can’t overcome my past mistakes?” Why is it so easy to say, “I can’t be good at this?”
Why is can’t so easy?
If you aren’t sure how to manage a budget at work; then you never say to your manager, “I can’t do it.” You seek help.
Yep…you know where I am going. If you aren’t sure how to be a good spouse or believe that you’ll never be good at marriage because you’ve always failed; then seek help.
I CAN do all things through Christ who gives me strength – Philippians 4:13
Be Strong. Act Like Men.
